Ending the Cycle of Yo-Yo Dieting

Are you caught in the exhausting cycle of yo-yo dieting?  Have you jumped at each new fad diet only to find it failed?  If you’re reading this then I bet that the answer to both questions is yes, isn’t it?

You know the emotional toll that repeated dieting failures can have. The feelings of frustration and hopelessness when a diet fails.  Sounds all too familiar, doesn’t it?   Rest assured, there’s a better way.

Can Hypnosis Work for Weight Loss?

“Can hypnosis help me lose weight?”.  This is one of the most common requests I hear as a consulting hypnotist.  (For more information on hypnosis see “About Hypnosis“).

While some may tell you that all you need is hypnosis. I’m going to be completely honest with you.  Hypnosis by itself is not the magic bullet to weight loss.

While addressing emotional eating alone might help you lose 10-15 pounds, it may not be enough to achieve significant, long-term weight loss. Emotional eating is just one aspect of the weight loss journey.

For more substantial weight loss, it’s crucial to combine efforts to both reduce emotional & stress eating with changes in your diet.

Now, these last statements may lose me some clients.  That’s ok with me.  I’d rather be upfront and honest.  If I am not, you may be unsuccessful.  I  don’t want that.  You’ve had enough people trying to sell you the magic pill or potion.  You don’t need one more saying that hypnosis is the magic bullet that makes everything better, do you?

A Holistic Approach for Sustainable Weight Loss

The problem with most diets is that they address one or the other aspect, never both. Sadly, more often than not this leads to failure.

What is needed is a holistic approach to weight loss.  This means creating a plan that addresses both legs of weight loss.  Leg1, the mental/emotional side.  Leg 2, the dietary side of the equation.

Leg 1: Addressing Emotional Eating and Mental Programming

The first prong of this holistic approach is to address the issues of emotional eating and mental programming.  This means removing any emotional eating triggers.  Then finding any hidden programming that causes you to overeat.  Programs such as the “clean you plate club.  Finally, installing new empowering beliefs about eating will lead to sustained weight loss.

And let’s not forget stress.  Stress can short-circuit any weight loss.  So it’s imperative that any sources of chronic stress be addressed as part of this program.  Reducing stress will help reduce weight and as a bonus, it will also improve your overall quality of life.

Leg 2: Creating a Sustainable Eating Plan

The Flawed Nature of Calorie-Restricted Diets

While calorie-restricted diets might seem like a quick fix, they aren’t.  Calorie-restricted diets led to hunger, deprivation, and disappointment.  They are unsustainable.  I think you’ll agree from personal experience or someone you know that this is true, right?  By focusing only on counting calories, these diets overlook the key to sustained weight loss. If not calorie-restricted then what?  So, what’s the alternative?

Designing a Sustainable Dietary Plan

The key to long-term weight loss is understanding the hormonal effects of food.   What no one may have told you is that hormones control the storage of fat.  Hormones also control fat loss.  The problem with traditional approaches to dieting is that they have failed to take this into account.  Once you understand how hormones affect your body, designing a personalized eating program that leads to sustained weight loss is easy.  No more starving yourself.  No more calorie counting.  Imagine feeling full and satisfied after each email and still losing weight. This approach sounds much more enjoyable, don’t you agree?
