Have you ever used willpower to go on a diet and failed?
If you’re like most people? The answer to that is yes. Today I’m going to show you a brief example. Why that occurs. It’s not about counting calories. It’s not about exercising more. It’s not about low carb or low fat or any of the things you typically hear people talk about in dieting, it’s about your self-image.
Who you see yourself as. It’s something that’s key behind every dieter’s failure and every success. To show you how this works I’m going to use a simple example. I’m just going to use this rubber band here. This rubber band is going to represent your subconscious programming that goes along with self-image. Now in this example, let’s assume I’m somebody who weighs 300 pounds. I want to weigh 180 pounds.
This hand over here my left hand is going to represent my current results my current self-image which is of a 300-pound person. The rubber band is going to represent the programming that goes along with that 300 pounds self-image and my right hand over here is going to represent my goal weight of 180 pounds. Here’s what happens. Let me get the rubber band all set up here. We start out at this point. This is my current weight of 300 pounds and my self-image. The rubber band represents the programming that goes along with a 300-pound self-image. This hand over here my right hand represents my goal weight of 180 pounds. I begin my diet using willpower and at first everything works easily because there’s not a lot of tension on the rubber band. The more I move away from my self-image which is 300 pounds the more tension there is on this rubber band. The more of my self-image programming, my subconscious wants to pull me back to 300 pounds. The closer I get to my goal weight. The more that tension and the more the struggle. For most people the struggle becomes too much, and they give up. And what happens? They come right back to where they started at 300 pounds.
So, what do you do about that? How do you get around it? Here’s the way you do it. You change your self-image first. Let’s swap out this example and start over. This hand, my left hand, now represents my external results my current weight at 300 pounds. This hand, my right hand, represents a new self-image that I’ve installed using hypnosis and changing my mindset. That I’m weighing 180 pounds. I hold that image in my mind. It’s not my external results right now, that’s still 300 pounds. Internally I’m starting to see myself as a 180-pound person. Now, this rubber band represents the subconscious programming that goes along with a 180-pound person. Not a 300-pound person.
How does this work? Now we start with tension already on the rubber band. These are my current external results. 300 pounds, here is my self-image of 180 pounds and this rubber band represents tension the subconscious programming that goes along with a 180-pound person. Now because of this tension, my external results, my weight of 300 pounds begins to drop. As I move towards 180 pounds the tension on the rubber band becomes less and less.
What this means is it becomes easier and easier to move towards this goal weight until finally the two become congruent. My external weight matches my self-image. When they become congruent, you stay at that weight of 180 pounds. That’s the difference between struggling using willpower and changing your self-image first. Philosophers have said this for thousands of years, you have to see it in your mind first before you can become it. With hypnosis you can change the way you see yourself in your mind. You can change the programming in your subconscious so that it helps you move from your current weight to your desired goal weight instead of resisting any movement away from your current weight.
