Do affirmations work? In this video I want to go into a little bit of depth. To show you how you can make affirmations work in your life.
The first thing to understand is these affirmations need to be done in the present tense. Start your affirmations in one of two ways. The first is “I am” as in “I am successful”. The second way is “I have” as in “I have a new car”.
Don’t make it I the future tense as in “I want”, “I would like to have”, “wouldn’t it be nice if I have”, “I hope to have” or any of those wiggle words. It has to be in the present tense starting with either “I am” or “I have”.
When you do that that it tells your subconscious mind that you already have it. That’s the key. Your subconscious mind only works on present tense it doesn’t know about the future knows about the past but it’s in the moment now. When you say “I am” or “I have” you’re telling the subconscious you already possess it.
The second thing is this. I have to say it with emotion. Emotion is not the same as volume. Shouting it out. Doesn’t work. Say it with a positive emotion.
Here’s two examples. See which one of these is more believable. “I am successful” (said in a bored tone).
Or “I am successful” (said in an enthusiastic tone).
Which one of those is more believable the first or the second? It’s obvious. The second is more believable because the emotion comes through. The power in my voice comes through when I say it. With the first one you don’t even believe it consciously so why would your subconscious ever believe that?
Unfortunately, that’s the way most people do affirmations. They do them with no emotion in their voice. They just do them because well, if I repeat them enough, something good will happen. That’s true. If you repeat it a million times something good will eventually happen. But who has time to repeat them a million times.
Instead, put some positive emotion into it. “I am successful”. “I have a new car.” That emotion then creates the third step which is the feeling.
This is also incredibly important. Create a physical feeling of already having it. And to do this I like use pauses. Here’s an example of how I would do the affirmation “I am successful”.
“I am … successful …”. The first pause after “I am” sets it up. And the pause after the word “successful” allows me to rest into the feeling.
Really feel that feeling of being successful. When you feel that emotion and you feel that physical feeling this tells the subconscious mind to go ahead and accept that suggestion.
You can do the same thing with “I have”. For example, “I have … a new car …). You can even close your eyes when you do it. “I have … a new car …”. And just feel that feeling flow through you. Then repeat it.
That’s the fourth step repetition. Do it 10 or 15 times in the morning and 10 or 15 times before you go to bed. Then throughout the day do it whenever you need it. Repeat it again once twice, 10 times 15 times. The more you repeat it the more you feel the emotion, the more you feel that feeling of having it, and the quicker your subconscious will accept that suggestion.
These are the keys to making an affirmation work.
One more bonus tip on affirmation. If you find yourself thinking that you failed, that you can accomplish something immediately, come back immediately with the affirmation and repeat it several times. You want to get rid of that negative feeling as quickly as possible and replace it with affirmation. The more you do that, the more the affirmation begins to override that old programming.
Follow these steps and your affirmation will in fact work. It doesn’t happen overnight. But it will work. over time.
Remember the steps.
- Use either ”I am” or “I have” in the present tense.
- Create a positive emotion.
- Feel that feeling in your physical body.
- Then repeat it the affirmation.
These are the keys to an affirmation.
